Annual Residential Dance Week 2017

The Gay Gordons invite you to join their residential Scottish Country Dance week in

SEDBERGH between 12th and 19th MAY 2017 (Apologies for the wrong dates previously published.)

Dance week 2017

The Location
This year our residential week is taking place in the historic town of Sedbergh which has had a marketplace charter since 1251 and is in the Yorkshire Dales National Park on the edge of the Lake District. It is close to junction 37 M6 and Oxenholme South Lakes station (160 minutes to London, 110 minutes to Edinburgh and 70 minutes to Manchester) as well as stations on the Settle Carlisle railway. It is officially recognised as the book town of England.

The Programme
Dancers will attend a two hour class each morning from 10:00 (except Saturday when there will be a later start) with a variety of teachers over the week giving their own individual emphasis to the day. In the afternoon there will be workshops or organised sightseeing available on some days and there are plenty of local walks and sights to see. On Friday there will be a welcome Ceilidh with dances on four other evenings – including an evening - 18th May - with George Miekle and The Lothian Dance band to which other local Scottish Country Dancers will be invited. Crib for the evening can be found here
There will also be a quiz/games night and a cabaret night when you will invited to perform.

Accommodation etc
We have rented an entire block of two bedroom flats; depending on final numbers we expect there to be two people in most bedrooms. Each flat has a kitchen/lounge area and one or two bathrooms. On the ground floor of the building there is an open area where we will meet for continental breakfast, a light lunch supplied by local restaurants and some evening meals with the others at local restaurants. The ground floor space can also be used for informal dancing; we will allocate the nearest bedrooms to the “night owls” in the group! The classes and the formal evening programme will mostly take place at Sedbergh People’s Hall which is a comprehensively equipped community centre a short walk from the accommodation. Everything is within easy walking distance of Main Street, shops, pubs etc

Attenders
Dancing attenders should have at least one or two years’ experience of Scottish Country Dancing; the week is not suitable for complete beginners. There are plenty of recreational options for accompanying “other halves”.

Costs etc

The cost is £350 for dancers and £250 for accompanying non dancers

This includes continental breakfast, a light lunch (eg soup or salad) and a choice of two courses for six evenings (you can “top up” extra courses, wine etc if you wish). It’s likely there will be a buffet supper if we have a live band one night. There will be a rota to help with breakfast, laying and clearing tables for meals, loading the dishwashers etc for the communal meals and you’ll also be responsible for keeping your own apartment clean. If everyone helps the “chores” should not take much time.
